Max has his feet up on the desk tonight, as guest hosts Doug Bost and Jeff Ward, the radio producers from Union Signal, fill in for him, taking you on an audio journey to a city the other side of the world: Algiers.


On this episode, we listen to part of the Lux Radio Theater’s production of Algiers from July 7, 1941, reuniting Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr for Hedy’s first-ever radio broadcast. Then we hear the Algiers section of The Jack Benny Program from October 24, 1943. Then we enjoy the adaptation that stands above the rest: Algiers as produced by the Mercury Theater on the Campbell Playhouse, October 8, 1939, starring Orson Welles, Paulette Goddard and Ray Collins. We conclude tonight’s show with an episode of the CBC’s Vanishing Point, series, from September 30, 1985: The Black Serpent.
