CORNELL KNOWLEDGE -4 THRILLERS FROM CORNELL WOOLRICH

The Golden Age of Radio Residents Jeff Ward and Doug Bost return tonight from 8 to 10pm to WBAI-NY, 99.5 FM and streaming over wbai.org.

Cornell Knowledge
Four thrillers adapted from stories by prolific crime writer Cornell Woolrich.

Suspense: The Black Curtain
December 2, 1943
Starring Cary Grant, Lurene Tuttle, Hans Conried, and Joseph Kearns as the Man in Black
This show is the first time Suspense had a sponsor, Roma Wines, and the first time they said “A story well calculated to keep you in … Suspense!”

Screen Guild Players: Phantom Lady
September 11, 1944
Starring Louise Albritton and the one and only Ralph Bellamy. The movie of Phantom Lady had only come out a few months earlier, and then it was adapted for radio a couple of times. This adaptation is short but it’s probably the best of all of them.

Suspense: Post Mortem
April 4, 1946
From Suspense, starring Agnes Moorehead and Joseph Kearns and Howard Duff. A great mix of comedy and suspense.

Up Theater Company: The Bride Wore Black
June 5, 2021
A more recent Woolrich adaptation from New York City’s own UP Theater Company, this production premiered on this very program back in 2021. Sound design and engineering by David Margolin Lawson. Starring Laura Fois, Rik Walter, Peter Flihan, Nikaury Rodriguez, Jonah Fields, Joe Burby, Doug Bost and Jeff Ward.
