THE MALACHY MCCOURT STORYTELLING ROOM IN NYC

I will be sharing audio from the unforgettable “Say It Ain’t So” Storytelling Salon at O’Malley’s on 27th Street. You’ll hear Chantal McLaughlin officially read the New York City Certificate of Recognition, declaring that the speakeasy in the back of O’Malley’s is now, and forever, The Malachy McCourt Storytelling Room—a perfect home for stories, laughter, and the spoken word.
From there, we’ll hear Malachy himself, telling one of his most beloved stories: the Christmas train set he never received as a child growing up in Limerick, and how that early disappointment somehow years later turn into the Miracle on 42nd Street.
Then Malachy’s son Connor McCourt joins us to talk about the next generation, sharing news about his daughter GiGi, who will be singing this Tuesday at the Hotel Belleclaire at 77th Street and Broadway, carrying the McCourt family’s creative spirit forward.
I’ll also talk about the film Love New York, which I’m proud to be part of, and which has just won Best Picture at the Bowery Film Festival.
We’ll wrap up the hour with a fundraiser for WBAI, because independent radio—like great storytelling—only survives when people step up to keep it alive.
