Our guests are so talented that they can write, perform, and record a fantastic song in just a few days! Joel Landy, Sharon Abreu & Mike Hurwicz, and Mercy Van Vlack with the NYC Metro Raging Grannies have all done that. Regular listeners have heard them on several episodes, sometimes performing songs written and recorded especially for the Eco-Logic radio show.

Joel Landy is a contributing member of the Eco-Logic collective. He is best known for creative stage performances and intelligent lyrics and songs about environmental and other social issues. Joel is also the producer of the award-winning Songs of Freedom television program, which has been celebrating the dignity of human struggle since 1996. He has written "Kelp" especially for Eco-Logic's " target=_blank>June 17th 2026 episode and "Methane" with lyrical help from Ken Gale.

Mercy Van Vlack is the lead singer of the NYC Metro Raging Grannies and one of the songwriters. Alice Sutter is currently the main songwriter of the NYC Metro Raging Grannies. Several members contribute with the group’s songwriting process. Mercy also wrote songs when she was with Plain Folk in Pennsylvania in the 80's. She created the Eco-Logic logo we use in each week's promotional meme.

The musical duo of Sharon Abreu & Michael Hurwicz met in NY in 1998 and sang with Pete Seeger in concerts to benefit the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and the Ships to Save the Waters conference in 2000. For four years, Sharon was vice president of NYC Friends of Clearwater and co-editor of the group’s Enviroblurb newsletter. After moving to Washington State, they started Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education, using music and theatre to inspire and empower people to become stewards of the Earth. Their websites are irthlingz.org and irthlingz.com. Sharon wrote "Batteries Batteries Batteries" and "Give the Critters Back Their Homes" especially for the Eco-Logic radio show.
