THREATS TO REPRODUCTIVE & GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE
On the Thursday, August 20 episode of City Watch at 5:00 pm ET, host Jeff Simmons speaks with Georgana Hanson, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts, about federal actions that could reshape access to reproductive and sexual health care in New York.
The conversation will examine threats to Title X, the nation’s only federal program dedicated specifically to family-planning and related preventive health services for people with low incomes or inadequate insurance. They will discuss proposed funding cuts, changes to the program’s priorities and what those actions could mean for contraception, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and other essential services.
They will also discuss the Trump administration’s move to prohibit federal Medicaid and CHIP funding from covering specified forms of gender-affirming care for minors, the consequences for young people and their families, and how New York may respond.
Following the interview, Jeff will open the phone lines at 212-209-2877 to hear from listeners.
