This week, we’re taking you inside "The House of the Negro Insane," a powerful new play by Terence Anthony.
Director Daniel Carlton, Executive Producer Douglas Wade, and Production Stage Manager/Fight Coordinator Reginald Lee Wilson join us for an exhilarating conversation about this important new work, produced by the legendary Negro Ensemble Company, Inc. (NEC, Inc.)
Set in 1935, "The House of the Negro Insane" explores the little-known history of U.S. psychiatric institutions established to house “insane and idiotic negroes.”
We’ll also talk about the ongoing legacy and work of NEC, Inc., and the vital conversation around keeping Black Theatre alive, well, and funded.
