EXPLORING THE SCIENCE—AND ETHICS—OF WILD ANIMAL WELFAR
What are the lives of animals in the wild really like—and how can science help improve their well-being?
On Sunday, August 16 at 9 a.m. ET, join hosts Erin Clarke and Jeff Simmons for of Animal Matters on WBAI 99.5 FM New York and streaming live at WBAI.org.
Their guest is Cameron Meyer Shorb, Executive Director of Wild Animal Initiative, an organization working to advance the emerging field of wild animal welfare science. Through original research, grants and support for scientists, Wild Animal Initiative examines challenging questions about how animals experience life in the wild, how their welfare can be measured and how human decisions might help—or unintentionally harm—them.
The conversation will explore the difference between conservation and animal welfare, the hardships wild animals face, the ethical questions surrounding human intervention in nature and why more scientific research is needed before policies or wildlife-management decisions are made.
