RENT STABILIZATION, POVERTY & AFFORDABILITY

Tune in to City Watch on WBAI 99.5 FM NY this Thursday at 5:00 PM ET when host Jeff Simmons welcomes Chloe Sarnoff, Director of Policy Research and Initiatives at Robin Hood, for a timely conversation about rent stabilization, poverty, and New York City’s affordability crisis.

Robin Hood’s new Poverty Tracker spotlight report examines the critical role rent-stabilized housing plays in keeping New Yorkers out of poverty — while also showing that many stabilized tenants are still struggling with rent burdens, material hardship, health challenges, and difficult housing conditions.

The conversation will explore who lives in rent-stabilized housing, how rent stabilization functions as an anti-poverty tool, what the data reveals about affordability and housing insecurity, and what City Hall and Albany can do to preserve affordable housing while improving living conditions for tenants.
