LYRICAL ACTIVISM: NEWS, VIEWS AND MUSIC, TOO
There is a Pacifica election coming up, so to vote, please ensure that you have contributed at least $25 since July 2025.
Musicians can say in just a few minutes what most of us would need a lot more time to get across - and they make it more memorable with music. Viet Nam War activism is remembered more for songs than speeches, for example. Songwriter Ray Korona always added that it usually takes a songwriter hours and hours to get the sentiment and information down to just three minutes. Those of us who listen get the benefit of all those hours in just a few minutes. No wonder songs are so well-remembered!
On this show, we will be exploring many different topics:
solar energy and fossil fuels,
El Niño,
the 1% vs the 99%,
civil disobedience,
the beauty of nature,
environmental damages by the military,
NJ Transit's bizarre fare system,
landfills taking up space, climate change & global warming, and
geoengineering.
We couldn't explore all those topics in one hour if it weren't for the talented songwriters and the wonderful music they make. To quote Pete Seeger “A good song reminds us what we're fighting for”.
Eco-Logic's news stories this week: How the North Atlantic cold blob developed and what it means for Europe's climate, the first U.S. paraquat ban, urgent protest of Gov Hochul's nuclear buildout, and an update on the New York data center moratorium bill.
Our music this week is
Pete Seeger “Solartopia”,
Spirit “Nature’s Way”,
Fred Gillen, Jr. “River of Money”,
Mercy Van Vlack “The Military Pollutes”,
Alex Davis “NJ Transit Fare”,
Anne Feeney “Have You Been to Jail for Justice?”,
Pete Seeger “Banks of Marble”,
Pete Seeger “Garbage”, and
Ray Korona Band “A Little Too Much Sunshine”.
