BK FOOD CO-OP WEIGHS ISRAEL BOYCOTT + CONRAD BLACKBURN

After nearly two decades of organizing, members of the Park Slope Food Co-op will vote tonight on whether to boycott goods made in Israel. With 17,000 members, the PSFC is the largest food co-op in the country and one of the oldest. In our first segment, we’ll speak with Dan Kaminsky of Park Slope Food Co-op Members for Palestine about how tonight’s meeting will proceed, the prospects of the boycott passing and why the co-op’s boycott battle has become a touchstone in the declining support of liberals for the state of Israel.

In the second half of the show, we’ll speak with Conrad Blackburn, a public defender, union organizer and democratic socialist running for Assembly District 70 in Harlem. Blackburn says that Harlem is controlled by a political machine that is out of touch with the needs of the people of Harlem and is more concerned with catering to wealthy real estate interests. He is running against incumbent Assemblymember Jordan Wright whose father Keith L.T. Wright previously held the seat for 24 years.
