ELECTIONS & THE ENVIRONMENT LOCAL TO NATIONAL

We’ve all heard that last Tuesday’s election was good for the Democratic Party, but was it good for the environment?

We’ll talk to some experts on electoral politics discussing this from both a national and a local perspective. Joining us will be Mark Dunlea, chairperson of the Green Education and Legal Fund, Deanna Noel of Public Citizen, and Chelsea Hull of Greenpeace USA.

Long-time WBAI listeners may remember Mark Dunlea's show on WBAI. He co-founded Green Education and Legal Fund. He is active in PAUSE, People of Albany United for Safe Energy, and cofounded New York and National PIRG (Public Interest Research Group), the Capital District Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and the Hudson Mohawk Independent Media Center. He has run for the office of New York State Comptroller on the Green Party ticket.

Deanna Noël is campaigns director for Public Citizen’s Climate Program. She advocates for financial institutions and regulators to act on climate change and for automakers to transition to zero emission vehicles. Prior to joining Public Citizen, Deanna worked on campaigns to protect public lands and safeguard federal environmental laws including the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act.

Chelsea Hull is a democracy campaigner at Greenpeace USA. Previously she worked in community organizing with Clean Water Action in Michigan and in community mental health as a clinician.

Our news articles this week are mosquitos in Iceland, U.S.A. rivers and carbon dioxide, and a probable outlook for small modular nuclear reactors.

Our song for this episode is “Politician” by Cream, with guitar by Eric Clapton.
