ON 504: THE MUSICAL: ABOUT THE 1977 SIT-IN FOR DISABLED PEOPLE’S CIVIL RIGHTS

On tonight’s show we’ll be joined by Abbie Goldberg, co-creator with Mason McDowell of a concert presentation at Joe’s Pub of The Neuro-Inclusive Theater’s 504: The Musical, a fictionalized account of the 1977 sit-in that led to civil rights for Disabled People.

Abbie Goldberg is a multidisciplinary artist from the mountains of rural Maine with an MFA in Musical Theater Writing from New York University. They have been published by HowlRound, Autostraddle, Dame, Waif Magazine, Sinister Wisdom, AK Press, and Ben Yehuda Press. She is an alumnus of the Join for Justice Community Organizing Fellowship where she worked for disability rights, and the New Opera and Musical Theater Initiative. Their work has been performed at Lincoln Center, Rattlestick Theater, Rockwood Music Hall, and as part of Adding Our Voices: The Jewish Feminist Songbook and Gender Inclusion Initiative. She is also a co-founder of the Jewish drag troupe Turmohel with whom she performs under the name Chava GoodTime.
