Lindsey Boylan, staff worker for former Governor Cuomo was the first woman to publicly speak out against the sexual harassment she endured while working for him (13 women eventually told similar stories) will be our guest. She'll speak about the toxic environment that Cuomo created for women; the sexual harassment she personally experienced on a daily basis; ongoing civil law cases brought by other victims; how Cuomo tried to bribe "Times Up" (set up to support harassment survivors) to help him deny the allegations in exchange for oolitical favors: Cuomo's denial of all allegations as he runs for Mayor of NYC -- and the meaning and extent of the workplace sexual harassment that more than 1/3 of workingwomen leave their jobs because of.
Segment Two
We'll be looking at the influence of Susan Brownmiller's groundbreaking work "Against Our Will: Men, Women and Rape" (published in 1975), in the context of the explosion of feminism in the 1960's that created the fertile groundwork for such a book to be written and published..
Our guest will be Holly Forsman, a member of the 1960's Consciousness Raising group of which Brownmiller was also a member and the discussions within that group that first sparked Brownmiller's interest in the subject of rape. We'll also look at the reception to the new conception of rape that Brownmiller proposed -- that it was a crime primarily of domination and control. We'll talk about the controversy sparked bym Brownmller's reference to the murder of Emmett Till. We'll also discuss how the ideas in this book were influential in changes to legal jurisprudence regarding rape. And we'll look at the obstacles rape victims still face today in arriving at justice--not to mention prevention--of rape and sexual harassment.
This program will also contain a feminist news segment and topical music.
