CATS & CHICKENS, OH MY!
On the June 22, 2025 episode of Animal Matters on @WBAI 99.5 FM NY, hosts Carol Anne Riddell, Jeff Simmons and Carlos Menchaca talk with Jet Auer de Saram, Secretary of NY Cat Warriors, an all-volunteer animal rescue organization in New York City, which assists NYC street cats that are abandoned and homeless, often in danger, disabled, and abused, with the ultimate objective to place them in loving forever homes.
Then, the hosts are joined by Alanna O’Donnell, a special education teacher at the P177Q The Robin Sue Ward School for Exceptional Children in Queens, who recently received a Flag Award for Teaching Excellence for her work creating an urban farm setting where the curriculum is centered around operating and maintaining a #chicken coop. Caring for chickens teaches her students responsibility and empathy, and she hopes the skills they are learning on the farm will support their future independence and well-being.
