CATHERINE CURRAN-GROOME, BRANDON MURPHY, JAMES CARLSON
On today’s program suspended Columbia University graduate students and their lawyer talk about their lawsuit against the University for violating its own policies during the disciplinary process, targeting the students for their views, and breaking New York’s landlord tenant laws when it evicted the students from university housing.
Catherine Elias Curran-Groome is a former Masters student specializing in Palestine studies at Columbia University. Prior to her expulsion for organizing against the Columbia-funded Israeli genocide in Gaza, she lived in Palestine with her partner while working for a local mutual aid network. Outside of organizing she bartends, dabbles in portrait photography, and lights men up on the basketball court.
Brandon Murphy is a suspended Masters in Social Work student at Columbia University who is proud to be a part of the movement fighting for Palestinian liberation here on Turtle Island. He is passionate about connecting the struggles of the Palestinian people to those of all oppressed peoples in New York, especially Latinos and Mexican immigrants, given they are close to home for him as a Mexican. In his free time he likes to break bread with his friends and has been told he’s a pretty good cook.
James Carlson is an attorney in private practice focusing on immigration and civil rights litigation.
