n the 1980s, a band of New York civic groups set out to stop the real estate developer’s attempt to erect his masterpiece, a half-mile of gargantuan buildings overlooking the Hudson River on Manhattan’s West Side he called “Television City.” Turf War: How a Band of Activists Saved New York from Donald Trump's "Masterpiece” An Insider’s Account, (Archway; October 22, 2024) is the story of that struggle from architect, land-use planner, and community activist Steven Robinson. Robinson was an organizer of the community group of neighbors who founded “Westpride” the nonprofit that initiated the defeat of the project. He was then tapped to be a designer on the replacement civic-oriented master plan for the site.
