With only 45 days left for the presidency of Joe Biden, there is a lot of pressure on him to use his still-powerful position to right many wrongs before this country enters an "equality deep-freeze' on January 20th.
Women have been waiting for an amendment establishing our equality as part of the U.S. Constitution for 101 years (101st Anniversary of the introduction of the ERA in 1923 by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman, will be on December 10). The Equal Rights Amendment has met all of the requirements for a Constitutional Amendment, but has been hung up in the Courts, first by the Trump Administration and then by the Biden Administration, despite President Biden having said many times that he is for it!
All that President Biden now has to do is to instruct the U.S. Archivist to 'publish the ERA' as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution, and it will be officially part of the law and able to be acted on.
The National ERA Publication Taskforce is leading a campaign, backed by NYS Senator Kristin Gillibrand, to get President Biden to make that move for women during his time left in office. The Taskforce recently had a great win, when 46 Senators signed on to a letter to Biden urging him strongly to "publish the ERA" before leaving office. Previously, over the summer, the American Bar Association, passed a resolution saying all legal requirements had been met and the ERA was ready for publication.
The taskforce is urging ALL people of conscience to do the following to back up their campaign:
