Next Air Date & Time: Mon, Sep 30, 2024 9:00 AM

Hosted by: Jenna Flanagan

Each week will feature reports from across the country on get out the vote efforts and the status of voter suppression measures being implemented at the county and state level. The role of labor unions and community based non-profits, like the Poor People's Campaign, in engaging voters will also be tracked and discussed.

The production will also rely on local campaign reporting being generated by Pacifica's affiliates Election Coverage 2024 under the direction of Executive Producer Lisa Loving, with KBOO, community radio in Portland, Oregon.

The weekly show will be available to Pacifica’s four other stations as well as the network’s 250 affiliates around the country. It will also provide an opportunity to compare and contrast how the national campaigns are discussing issues locally. The series will also examine why some Americans opt not to exercise their franchise.

Columbia University researcher Robert Paul Hartley conducted a study of the 2016 electorate that zeroed in on the performance of the low wage voter cohort and found a majority of them did not vote and when they were surveyed they explained they didn’t turn out because they didn’t hear candidates discuss issues that had any relevance to their lives.“They’re saying that they’re not voting because people are not speaking to their issues and that they’re just not interested in those candidates,” Hartley, told the New York Times. “But it’s not that they couldn’t be.”

In addition to 99.5 FM WBAI in New York City, Pacifica holds the FCC license for WPFW (DC), KPFT (HOUSTON), KPFK (LA), and KPFA (SAN FRANCISCO).
