In this week’s segment we discuss actions exposing media collusion with the U.S. and Israeli governments in reporting genocide and how ICE is violating the law and human rights with its mass deportation policy. But first we talk about colonization in Kenya and other supposedly decolonized nations, including the U.S.

Marcela Onyango is a Luo stand-up comedian and writer based in Brooklyn and Washington DC. Marcela is the founder of Feel the News, a news destination with a sense of humor and anarchy which has amassed over 77,000 followers on TikTok. Marcela is currently a columnist for Shado Mag and hosts a monthly show, Feel the News at Friends and Lovers in Brooklyn. She joins us from Brooklyn NY to talk about her recent post on substack entitled Feel the News. The post, “The Kenyan president is a colonizer” analyzes colonization and its deeper meanings regarding events in Kenya and our own understanding of that term.

Gaza Media Accountability Encampment began recently in direct response to what organizers call the media’s “complicity in manufacturing consent for Israel’s crimes against humanity.” Activists are demanding an end to misleading, decontextualized coverage of Gaza and Palestine by U.S. media corporations such as NBC News, MSNBC, NewsNation, and Fox News, all of which have offices at 400 North Capitol Street NW in Washington DC. We’re joined by Hazami Barmada, a media encampment organizer in Washington.

We’re joined by Mario Bruzzone, Vice President of Policy at the New York Immigration Coalition, an umbrella advocacy group that brings together nearly 200 diverse member organizations to advocate for the rights of all immigrants. He joins us from New York city to discuss Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, detentions taking place at 26 Federal Plaza in New York. Legal residents who arrive for immigration hearings are being detained by ICE and some of them are kept there in inhumane conditions. Members of congress were refused entry and have sued to be allowed inside to see conditions.
