Synopsis:

In this week’s segment we discuss the commutation of Leonard Peltier’s life sentence to house arrest. But first we hear about South Africa, and an analysis of why Donald Trump is attacking that nation’s leaders.

In a recent executive order, President Donal Trump condemned the Republic of South Africa for “its recent land confiscation act to seize disfavored citizens’ property without compensation, the government of South Africa blatantly discriminates against ethnic minority descendants of settler groups.” He also condemned South Africa for charging Israel with genocide at the International court of Justice. We’re joined by Lefika Chetty, head of international relations in the province of Gauteng and a member of the Central Committee Subcommittee on International Relations of the South African Communist Party to discuss Trump’s claims.

80-year-old Leonard Peltier was freed from 49 years of imprisonment when Joe Biden commuted his life sentence to house arrest on January 19th, one day before he left the office of the presidency. Peltier was convicted of killing 2 FBI agents in 1977. But he always maintained his innocence and there were many questions about the fairness of his trial. To discuss the significance of Peltier's commutation we are joined by Kalonji Changa, a co-founder of Black Power Media and host of RSTv on Youtube. He is also the founder and national coordinator of the FTP Movement. Jenipher Jones is founder and managing attorney with the law firm For the People and lead attorney for Leonard Peltier. She joins us from Denver and Kalonji Changa from Atlanta.
