In this week’s segment we hear about an effort at community based power and self-determination for a Black working class Washington DC community. But we begin with a report on conditions in Cuba from two activists who recently participated in the recent solidarity flotilla movement. They discuss how the accelerated US embargo is impacting the Cuban people who nonetheless remain committed to maintaining their nation’s sovereignty.
Corinna Mullin is an anti-imperialist scholar and organizer, with groups such as the Anti imperialist scholars collective and the US Peace Council. She also organizes with labor for Palestine and CUNY for Palestine. Suzanne Adely is President of the National Lawyers Guild and a member of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers. They join us to discuss their recent trip to Cuba which is suffering from an escalating US embargo.
Oliver Robinson joins us from Pan African Community Action (PACA), is a grassroots group of African/Black people organizing for community-based power in Washington DC. PACA recently released Community Control DC, A People’s Platform for Collective Self-Determination which outlines their vision for Southeast DC, a majority Black and working class community.
