Synopsis:

In this week’s segment we hear from a press conference called in support of the sovereign rights of Venezuela and the rights of those who support them to meet in that country. But first we hear about a coup attempt in the west African nation Benin and how the entire region is impacted by continued neo-colonial destabilization.

Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor of Pan-African Newswire, joins us to discuss the recent coup attempt in the west African nation of Benin. The coup ended with assistance to president Patrice Talon from neighboring Nigeria and from France. Abayomi Azikiwe joins us from Detroit to provide analysis on events in Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, the Alliance of Sahel States, other countries in west Africa and the enduring impact of colonialism and neo-colonialism in the region.

The Peoples Assembly for Peace and Sovereignty of Our Americas recently convened in Caracas, Venezuela, but many of the invited international delegates were unable to attend due to the Trump administration declaring a no fly zone over Venezuela. The Workers World Solidarity Center hosted a press conference in New York City on December 10th to express condemnation of this illegal action. I was among the speakers along with William Camacaro, Sara Flounders, Drea Somers, Suzanne Adely, Roger Wareham, Corinna Mullin and others. These are excerpts of our remarks.
