TENANT CONTROL - PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Legislation has been introduced in Albany to give tenants the first right of refusal to purchase their buildings in certain circumstances. Scott Sommer talks with Claudia Waterton, a Bronx tenant association president from a building tenants have been able to buy, and Elise Goldin, CLT (Community Land Trust) Campaign Organizer at the New Economy Project, about how this legislation could work and what it would do to permanently preserve affordable housing.

New rent guidelines set by the Rent Guidelines Board, for leases beginning between 10/1/22 & 9/30/23: for apartments & lofts 3.25% for a 1-year lease, 5% for a 2-year lease; no increase for SROs, rooming houses, & hotels. Nassau county: 2% for 1 year, 3.5% for 2 years. Westchester County: 2% for 1 year, 3% for 2 years. Rockland County: 0.5% for 1 year, 0.75 for 2 years.
