The two of us talked about having started our relationship 25 years ago on this date, and having gotten married 16 years ago.

We talked about the crisis of Russia trying to take over Ukraine and compared it to the Sudetenland crisis of 1938, when Great Britain and France caved in to Hitler's demands that a strategic portion of Czechoslovakia be given to the Third Reich. Appeasement didn't work out tell in 1938, it usually doesn't.

We noted that Vasily Arkhipov, the man who'd saved the world, would have turned 96 on January 30.

We talked about some people saying that the pandemic is slacking off, but the death rate from COVID~19 is higher this week than it was last week.

• For those who need some help getting started with Gnu Privacy Guard there is Gentle GPG which does a lot of the work for you.

• For the somewhat more advanced user who wants to protect his or her privacy there is the Tails OS. Tails is a live operating system that you can start on almost any computer from a USB flash drive or a DVD.
