PROTEST SONGS ACROSS THE YEARS W/GUEST HOST JESSE LENT

There is no shortage of lyrics written in response to the social ills of any given era, but how many of them are contained in truly great songs? If you set aside the tunes that we’ve all heard a million times like “Imagine” or “What’s Going On,” the list gets a lot shorter.

But there are countless unsung songs of dissent that, while unlikely to be heard chanted at a demonstration anytime soon, are still as powerful today as the day they were recorded.

In this week’s episode of “Making Music,” special guest Jesse Lent, (host of “TrumpWatch” Wednesdays at 6:30pm on WBAI and a member of the groups CSC Funk Band, The Monte Vista and The Sweetheartz of the Psychic Rodeo) looks back at some of the best protest songs across the decades that don’t typically get played on the radio dial.
