The Guardian is reporting that US and Iran have reached a deal that purports to bring an immediate end to the war between the US and Iran with President Trump claiming that the flow of oil through the region will be restored. But amidst Trump's social media boasts about the deal to be formally signed on Friday, basic questions remained surrounding Israel's ongoing annexation of southern Lebanon highlighted by an IDF bombing on Sunday in the southern suburbs of Lebanon that killed three and injured six.

The Guardian is also reporting that Europe's G7 nations are set to meet following Russia's deadly missile and drone attack on Kyiv that damaged a world famous monastery site that's on UNESCO's list of world heritage sites.

Russia blamed the strike on a US made Patriot missile.

The New York Times is reporting that the war in Ukraine has now raged for close to 1,600 days, or four years and three months, making it longer than World War. Hundreds of thousands have been killed with the toll particularly high for the Russian military.

Meanwhile, attacks on education, pupils and staff around the world have spiked by 40 percent to nearly 8,500, according to the Guardian. The disturbing analysis is from a report issued by the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack.

The report documents such attacks in 83 countries in 2024 and 2025 with Ukraine registering close to 900 such attacks, while Palestine saw 2,400. Other hotspots for targeting schools include Columbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ethiopia and Haiti.
