24 national and grassroots environmental groups file comments about nuclear waste with Nuclear Regulatory Commission
- 01/04/2013 by Rebecca Myles (WBAI)

State leadership of Vermont and New York are calling on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to do a more thorough study of the impacts of storing spent nuclear fuel on the grounds of nuclear power plants.  The NRC is soliciting comments on nuclear waste storage as part of a process for an environmental review of on-site storage or explain why one is not needed.  Comments have also been filed by 24 national and grassroots environmental groups to include Riverkeeper, Citizens Allied for Safe Energy, Don’t Waste Michigan, Friends of the Earth, and Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions.  Wbai's Rebecca Myles spoke to Mindy Goldstein, Director of the Turner Environmental Law Clinic, one of the attorneys who worked on the comments on behalf of the 24 groups.
