The judge presiding over the military commission trial of the alleged 9/11 plotters has approved the government’s request to censor any testimony from the defendants about the torture and abuse inflicted on them after their capture. Military Judge Colonel James Pohl ruled that any statements by the defendants about their treatment can be kept from the public as “classified”.
WBAI’s Andrea Sears spoke with Hina Shamsi, Director of the ACLU’s National Security Program, who says Colonel Pohl’s ruling didn’t even address the first amendment argument that the public has a right to hear trial testimony.
