This is Living For The City. Today we confront one of the most urgent threats to our democracy -- the election just over the horizon: 2026.

With us is the fearless investigative reporter Greg Palast, whose decades of work in The Guardian, Rolling Stone, and other outlets have exposed how power and politics collide in the dark.

His new film, Vigilantes Inc: America's New Vote Suppression Hitmen, is not a retrospective -- it's a warning. It documents how self-appointed "vigilantes" -- armed not with guns but with challenges and lists -- are systematically targeting voters to block ballots from being counted. These are not officials. They are private citizens, backed by political machines, emboldened by state laws and court rulings, and increasingly aggressive in swing states.

The film reveals how over 850,000 mostly Black and Brown voters were challenged in 2024 alone.

As we look toward 2026, the question is: will these tactics be refined, expanded, and deployed even more aggressively?

Today we will dig into that. Who are these vigilantes? What legal and political cover do they enjoy? And how do we -- voters, organizers, guardians of democracy -- resist the next wave?
