Fighting for Fairness: Retirees, Medicare, and the Battle Against Billionaire Power
- New York 02/08/2025 (WBAI)

What’s Going On: The Friday Labor Edition

Keziah Glow and Mary Pizzitola, retired FDNY EMT and president of the New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees, interview Alex Lawson, the executive director of Social Security Works.

Lawson describes how 4,000 protestors showed up outside the U.S. Treasury Department to protest Elon Musk getting access to the federal government’s payment system. He argues that Trump’s mass firing of Inspectors General proves he’s not truly interested in rooting out fraud and waste, but rather in consolidating power to deliver massive tax cuts to billionaires.

Joe Maniscalco, editor of Work Bites, joins the conversation.

Marianne Pizzitola provides her weekly update on New York City retired civil servants’ battle to retain their Medicare and avoid being forced onto a predatory Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan—one that is neither Medicare nor an advantage.

We are currently in the middle of the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment period, which ends on March 31st. We’ll discuss what that means for people who are unhappy with their Medicare Advantage Plan.
