Building Momentum for Occupy Wall Street's First Anniversary

- New York City 09/13/2012 by Occupy Wall Street PR Team (Occupy Wall Street PR Team)Excitement is building for Occupy Wall Street’s first anniversary! This advisory will tell you about some of the lead-up actions and events which show how Occupy Wall Street (OWS) does its work – providing plenty of story ideas, great visuals and opportunities for interviews.
 
For the anniversary, September 15, 16 and 17, under the banner All Roads Lead to Wall Street three days of education, celebration and resistance to economic injustice are planned -- with convergences and assemblies, concerts, and some of OWS’s famous direct action planned for 7 AM, September 17 (also known as S17) at the New York Stock Exchange.  We'll be sending out updates very soon with complete details, upi can also check the schedule online at s17nyc.org/schedule.
 
Building the People’s Wall (The People’s Wall is a non-violent civil disobedience action  at the New York Stock Exchange and surrounding intersections planned for the morning of S17) advance action trainings are open to the press giving a behind-the-scenes look at preparations for the Monday protest and possible availability with individual protesters.

Thursday, September 13th

3pm: Guitarmy to Occupy Bronx Criminal Courthouse with Graham family
Leaving Union Square, 3pm; Arrival at Bronx Courthouse 215 E 161st Street at 7pm
Occupy Guitarmy will join the family of Ramarley Graham, a teenager killed by NYPD in February
 
5pm: Chicago Teachers Strike Solidarity
DFER, 928 Broadway Office Building. Picket and rally at the offices of Democrats for Education Reform [IN PARENTHESES (DFER]], a lobbying group made up of hedge fund executives working to privatize public education. Organized by Movement of Rank-and-File Educators (MORE) and the Occupy Wall Street Labor Outreach Committee.
 
10pm: #Sleepful Protest Bedtime Skillshare & Community Assembly
Liberty Plaza (Zuccotti). Thinking of engaging in a #SleepfulProtest? Join #OWS & members of the #TrinitySleeps community for an informal evening gathering of storytime, know your rights training, community service & safe space creation.

Friday, September 14th

6:45am: Wake up Wall Street 5
Hilton Hotel, 6th Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets
Money in politics at its worst: $50,000 a table fundraiser is being held for the Romney campaign on Sept. 14. Then next week on Sept. 18 we will hit a $40,000 a plate Obama fundraiser at 40-40 hosted by Jay -Z.
 
6pm: S17 Affinity Group Spokescouncil 5
55 Water Street.  Imagine a World Without Wall Street. Come to the S17 Affinity Group Spokescouncil 5. Learn about the action framework, choose targets, and make friends.
 
OWS won’t stop until the 99% gets what it deserves--economic justice.
