Nicholas Heyward Sr. passed away this week. He was a leading proponent of holding police accountable for the deaths of hundreds of mostly Black and Latinx people. He pursued the officer who killed his son with complaints and lawsuits.  Heyward protested and confronted police chiefs and district attorneys. He was a convener of the annual October 22nd march against police brutality.
