The new movement will fight at the grassroots level for progressive changes in school boards, in local, city and state government and for ballot items. It is being formed under the leadership of the former president of the Communication Workers of America, Larry Cohen, and with others who led Sanders' Campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination.
And Bernie Sanders outlined key initiatives such as defeating the TPP, overturning Citizens United and moving towards automatic voter registration. Sanders said, "We want more people to participate in the electoral process not less." And Sanders gave a shout-out to Zephyr Teachout running for Congress in New York State and to other candidates who embody progressive values.
He ended his announcement on a personal note, thanking his supporters saying, "Elections come and go but the struggle for justice continues."
