Today marks the 50th year of the assassination of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz). The Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center commemorated the historic moment in the same place Malcolm X’s life was taken 50 years ago (formerly the Audubon Ballroom) in Harlem.

Around 300 guests attended the momentous occasion, including notable event speakers Mayor Bill de Blasio, Congressman Charles B. Rangel, New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Ilyasah Shabazz (daughter of Malcolm X), Saul Williams and A.
