New York's City Council has yet to pass legislation that would grant workers paid sick days.  Meanwhile, workers are losing their jobs when they get sick as was the case with Celina Alvarez who lost her job when she had to go to hospital for a heart condition.

Alvarez and the community group Make the Road New York held a rally in Elmhurst, Queens today outside the restaurant where Alvarez uses to work.

WBAI's Rebecca Myles spoke to Hilary Klein, lead organizer with Make the Road New York.
