The New York Yankees baseball team and a British Soccer team owned by an oil rich Arab sheik today announced they will co-own a Major League Soccer team that will begin playing somewhere in New York City in 2015.The announcement, at a charter school in Harlem that has received tens of thousand of dollars from Major League Soccer, is being applauded by aficionados of the sport anxious to root for a hometown New York team. At the same time, community activists in Queens are vowing to fight tooth and nail to block a proposal to build the team a new stadium in Flushing Meadow-Corona Park.
