IN THE HEART OF THE SEA: A CONVERSATION WITH DIRECTOR RON HOWARD + MORE

In The Heart Of The Sea: A Conversation With Director Ron Howard. Ecology meets history in this real life dramatic prequel to Herman Melville's conceptual origins of Moby Dick. And whaling as an obsessive, reckless and destructive energy quest predating the global oil wars and fracking today. While dramatically channeling power, money and class conflict back then, along with references to Jack London, Hawthorne, Shakespeare, Greenpeace, and that other animal - the elephant in the room - regarding the voracious greed and brutality of the Industrial Revolution on the big screen

Filmmaker Samir Talks Iraqi Odyssey. A cinematic exploration of the tragic history of Iraq through the diaspora of the director's extended family across the planet, in the face of endless invasion and war. While eliciting notions in this conversation about Hegel, McCarthyism, Euro-fascism, and a documentary struggling to keep up with the more current and rapid pace of history.

Poetry Corner: Musician, activist and spoken word poet in residence at the Black Agenda Report Raymond Nat Turner, reads from his work. A kind of lyrical collage of jazz and poetry, infused with a medley of Langston Hughes, Mingus, and 'bar codes on brown flesh.' Chris Butters reports.
