Thursday, August 27, 2015 10:00 PM - 12:00 AM
WBAI 99.5fm Raz Mesinai hosts "Musical Chairs", a rotating spotlight on stupendous music and arts. Learn about the amazing schooling he's up to at http://upc.nyc where new producers learn not only music production but are schooled on the history of those who came before them including the clubs where music organically fueled cultural movements and continue to do so from that foundation. Example, a walking tour with a interactive app so you can see what was once there via a pic and history like "Palladium", "The World", "Tonic" and more.
Producer, composer and filmmaker Raz Mesinai has produced over 100 albums since 1989, ranging from, yet not really being actually defined by, dub, dancehall, hip hop, modern composition, and noise. He's made them under the monikers, Badawi, Sub Dub, The Bedouin, Ladyman, DJ Tab, X-On, Psyc Co. on such diverse labels as John Zorn's Tzadik, Instinct, Asphodel and iconic Punk, Hardcore & Dub label; ROIR Records.
He also founded the UPA, a school for professional music education in production, performance with fellow producers, engineers, composers and marketing strategists, such as HPrizm (Anti Pop Consortium), Scotty Hard (Wu Tang, Medeski Martin & Wood), Todd Reynolds (Bang On A Can), Moldover (Mojo Controllers), Val Jeanty, AGF and many others.
