Program description:

One-hour weekly public affairs program. Focus is primarily US political prisoners (a commentary by Mumia Abu-Jamal begins each show). The prison/industrial complex, repressive legislation, police brutality, etc. The program has been on the air since 1988.

Host/producer profiles:

Sally O'Brien is a progressive journalist and media activist. Her journalistic career began in 1980 in the WBAI News Department. She has served as street reporter, Associate News Director, Interim Public Affairs Director, and Executive Producer of several programs at WBAI. She also designed and ran a News Department at WOMR-FM in Provincetown, Mass. She has written for The Nation (magazine), The Guardian, The City Sun, and The Advocate, among others. She was an audio engineer with UN Radio for 18 years.  A longtime activist and organizer, Sally does media work on the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal and other US political prisoners, the Jericho Movement and the Justice Committee of the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights, and other anti-police-violence organizations.  She is the executive producer of the monthly program on Cuba "Cuba in Focus" which airs on WBAI the last Monday of each month at 5 pm.  She does media work on various campaigsn to end the US embargo on Cuba.

Dequi Kioni-Sadiki joined Where We Live in the summer of 2009.  While new to radio broadcasting, Dequi has been active in the struggles against police violence, criminal justice, tuition hikes and womyn's reproductive rights.  She is a former member of the Black Panther Collective, the NYC Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition, and now serves as co-chair of the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee of which Baba Herman Ferguson serves as Chairman Emeritus.  Dequi is a graduate of CUNY at Medgar Evans College and the Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education at Queens College.  She served as national co-chair of the People of African Descent Caucus for the Wasington, DC based United States Student Assocation, and currently works with the NYC Jericho Movement in the campaign to free united states political prisoners and prisoners of war.  Dequi is an artist, poet, public speaker and educator for liberation.  And now, a radio producer!
