Professor Richard Wolff on the economy
On June 10, 2009, City Watch featured a 25 minute interview with professor Richard Wolff.
Dr. Wolff is a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst,a position he has held since 1981. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University in 1969 and taught at the City College of New York from 1969-1973. He is well-known for his work on Marxian economics, economic methodology and class analysis.
Topics in the interview: The banking system is insolvent. How Germany dealt with bailing out Opel was very different from how the US dealt with GM. The down side of consumers only buying goods produced in their country. The huge problem of unemployment. About Marxism and about crisis. George Carlin
Max Schmid, in a two-hour special, played some George Carlin programs from the Pacifica Radio Archives. The show aired on
June 24, 2008.
One of the shows originally
aired October 2006. We also heard George Carlin in conversation with Larry Bensky in a classic edition of Living Room
from 1997. They discussed his career from a radio announcer in 1956 to the writing of his first book Brain Droppings
in 1997. Carlin recounted his early childhood, dissected the contradictions in language, and bonds with Pacifica
over the famous Supreme Court case on indecency. He also read a few selections from Brain Droppings.
